WATCH: Former Arsenal footballer Benik Afobe narrates how maid stole his Sh 66m jewelry

Benik Afobe, a footballer who played for Arsenal Football Club, revealed how one of his house maids stole jewelry worth Sh 66 million from his house.

Speaking on June 21, 2023, on the Counter Attack Podcast, the renowned footballer said a cleaner sent by the cleaning company they had been contracting for two years stole the jewelry on the first day she reported to work.

“Anyway, it was her first day, the woman that stole it, was the first day and literally because where I’ve been staying upstairs, it’s like a loft room turned into a bedroom. I’ve only been back in the country for two, three days so my suitcase is just there. Mixes watches, my watches, my mom’s watches and jewelry is up there because it’s a bit like scattered. It’s just our house for a couple of days.

She starts off in the loft around nine o’clock, she comes downstairs at 9;45 and says ‘my husband just called me, son’s not feeling well, I need to leave’  thinking oh when you’re hearing a son, obviously, I lost my daughter, when you hear son is not well, I told her to go ahead and go,” began Afobe.

He went on to reveal that in a video he’d seen, the woman had a backpack when she went upstairs and went into his bedroom and walked out to leave. Immediately, his Mrs went upstairs and found her jewelry gone and the cases open. They turned to the cleaner and told her to give everything back or they would call the police. She gave up two watches and someone came and picked her up in a car. As he was not there during the theft, he got the footage and turned to social media where he was able to get the thief’s address. The woman was located in Romania and the footballer said they intended on suing the cleaning company. He also said there was more the police could have done on this matter.

He was however grateful that the thief hadn’t been mad or had a weapon around his family. He expressed shock at the audacity of someone stealing from a family when they were inside the house, saying he won’t be disrespected like that.

“I’m hoping that the police lawyers can just play their part in the situation and they all get resolved in it but we’ll have to wait and see,” added Afobe.

The striker is currently looking for a new club to join. Born in 1993, the footballer who traces his roots back to the Democratic Republic of Congo, signed a contract with Arsenal in February 2010. He was loaned out to several clubs including Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanders. In 2015, he joined Wolverhampton Wanders.
