Woman stuffed in suitcase: Husband confesses, recounts her final moments

Morris Njuguna and his wife Risper Ndunge had a love story brewed inside a fish joint. They had met each other there, and as fate would have it, their romantic connection grew stronger, leading them to tie the knot after only nine months of being together.

They both worked at a local restaurant located along the Eastern Bypass in Ruiru, Kiambu County. Mr Njuguna, who was only 28 years old, was the chef at the eatery, while his wife worked as a cashier.

They spent most of their days working together, serving customers with passion and dedication, never indicating that their love story would take a tragic turn.

On the fateful day, Ndunge spent most of Monday working at the restaurant with her husband.

According to witnesses, everything seemed normal as they served their customers.

However, the following day, Ndunge’s lifeless body was discovered dumped in a polythene sack 500 meters from their rented house within Kamakis area along Eastern Bypass.

It was a gruesome and heartbreaking discovery that shook the community.

Police quickly launched an investigation into the incident, and Morris Njuguna was arrested as the prime suspect in his wife’s murder.

Police suspected infidelity and jealousy may have been at play in the couple’s relationship.

According to detectives at Ruiru Police Station, on the day of the murder, the couple had quarreled inside their rented house.

Njuguna had left work earlier than usual and proceeded to buy a polythene sack, suspected to be the same bag used to dump Ndunge’s body. It is alleged that Njuguna had bought the sack for Sh150 and had paid for it through M-Pesa.

The police later discovered that the suspect had confessed to killing his wife and planning a cover-up.

He had hit her with a blunt object before stashing her body in the polythene sack and dumping it.

The suspect was tracked down through his mobile phone and arrested at his ancestral Makuyu, Murang’a County home.

During the investigation, police found bloodstains at their rented house, leading to suspicions that the murder had taken place there.

Njuguna had even traveled to Makuyu and hid the mobile handset of the deceased to cover his tracks.

However, he later led the police to their rented house, where the bloodstains were found.

Ruiru DCIO Justus Ombati told Daily Nation the suspect would be arraigned at Ruiru Law Court on Monday, April 24, 2023, where he will be charged with murder.

Njuguna has already confessed to the crime, and the police have appealed to young couples to find ways of solving their marital problems when they arise instead of taking someone’s innocent life.

“We appeal to young couples to find ways of solving their marital problems when they arise instead of taking someone’s else innocent life,” Mr Ombati noted.
