25 female filmmakers to be feted on International Women Day
On March 8, International Women’s Day, 25 female filmmakers will be celebrated for their outstanding achievements in the film industry.
The event is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the remarkable contributions of women across various aspects of filmmaking, including acting, directing, writing, producing, and technical roles.
Established as an annual ceremony, the Women in Film Awards aim to highlight the exceptional accomplishments of women in an industry historically dominated by men.

Now in its fifth year, the awards ceremony will take place at the Nacece Resource Centre, KICD, from 6 pm to 10 pm.
The 4th Edition of the Women in Film Awards (WIFA) was held at the Kenya Cultural Centre, Nairobi, in 2023.
The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports, and the Arts, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, congratulated the winners and urged industry players to offer job opportunities to women in all areas of film production, not just limited to camera roles and acting.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by the CEO of the Kenya Film Commission, Mr. Timothy Owase, the CS expressed the Ministry’s commitment to developing policies that promote inclusion and representation in the film sector.
He emphasized the significance of the film industry in generating wealth and creating job opportunities, particularly for the youth, and highlighted its essential role in society.
Nominations for the awards opened on December 15, 2023, and closed on January 15, 2024.
