Gor Mahia’s Oboya stranded in Vietnam
Gor Mahia forward Patrick Oboya is reportedly stranded in Vietnam where he has been invited for a series of trials with a number of teams, Nairobi News can reveal.
The Kenya international is said to have reached out to a couple of friends back at home and abroad from his current base, with identical requests to “bail him out” with some cash for “facilitation.”
“He (Oboya) doesn’t seem to be doing too well in Asia. I hope this doesn’t affect him because all of us want him to get a better deal out there, and turn a new chapter on his life,” a source privy of the goings-on told Nairobi News.
The vastly talented left footed winger is keen to resuscitate his career after below par performance in the last two seasons which also saw him plagued with injuries.
INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCES
If the trials with the unnamed sides in Vietnam are successful, this will mark the second stint for the 27 year old in the Asian country. Two years ago, Oboya played for Binh Dinh FC in the Vietnamese league.
Oboya, who has churned out inconsistent performances with Gor Mahia, mostly from the bench, over the past one and a half seasons, has also enjoyed separate spells in the Czech Republic with FC Banik Most and Fotbal Trinec, alongside earlier stints at AFC Leopards and Tusker in the Kenyan Premier League.
Meanwhile Oboya’s possible departure from Gor Mahia could spell a mini-crisis for a club that has already lost the services of dependable players Dan Sserunkuma and Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito.
There are also reports that defender David ‘Calabar’ Owino and utility man Godfrey Walusimbi are the targets of oil rich clubs in Sudan.
Gor Mahia, who defied a major financial handicap following the loss of sponsorship to win the league last season, are set to represent the country in the Cecafa Club Championship and the Caf Africa Champions League next year.
