Kenya Prisons volleyball team manager David Kilundo has warned all rival teams that they will “go all out” to reclaim the national and continental titles next year.

Kilundo revealed this at the sidelines of an end of year function for sports teams from the institution, that was presided over by the Commissioner General of Prisons Isaya Osugo at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Nairobi at the weekend.

During the event, the institutions’ men and women teams presented a total of 10 trophies, including the men’s national league title, from participating in different County competitions to the Commissioner.

GREATLY IMPROVED

Kilundo, who doubles up as the Assistant Commissioner of Prisons, was however hard pressed to explain why the women’s national and continental titles were missing from the collection.

“Obviously the game has become more competitive and our rivals have greatly improved. I am, however, certain that our ladies will reclaim the trophies next season,” Kilundo said.

The wardresses lost the national league and CAVB Africa club championship titles to Kenya Pipeline and Algerian club GS Petroliers respectively.

STAR PLAYERS

The North African side halted David Lung’aho’s team’s dream of winning a sixth straight continental gong, with a 3-0 (30-28, 25-15, 25-9) victory in Tunisia in April. Japheth Munala’s Pipeline also snatched the national title from Prisons with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-17) win during the national league play-offs in Mombasa last weekend.

Part of Prisons loss of form this term has been attributed to the departure of star players Brackides Agala, Mercy Moim and Jane Wacu for professional stints in Europe.

Kilundo in the meantime confirmed that the team’s technical bench has recruited three youngsters Anne Lowen (centre attacker), Irene Mbula (right attacker) and Yvonne Wavinya from Kwanthanze High School, to bolster the team ahead of the upcoming season.
