10 key demands by striking teachers
1. An increase in basic salary by between 200 per cent and 300 per cent.
2. All science teachers paid risk allowance at a rate of 200 per cent of their basic pay.
3. Increase in house allowance by up to 50 percent of the basic salary for the grade of the teacher.
4. Payment of leave allowance.
5. Phase out chalks and black boards and replace them with smart boards.
6. Responsibility allowance for head-teachers, their deputies and department heads.
7. Hardship allowance be extended to teachers’ spouses.
8. Township allowances for all teachers working in urban areas.
9. Housing mortgage scheme to be provided to all teachers.
10. Entertainment allowance for all teachers.
11. Manageable classes, phase out over crowded classes.
