Safaricom: 65% of users have registered sim cards

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) says more than half of Safaricom line users have visited its outlets across to verify whether their lines are registered or not.

So far 65% of Kenyans have volunteered and gone to verify their credentials. The process is ongoing.

The stats were confirmed by Nicholas Mulila, Safaricom Chief Risk and Security officer.

“We continue to urge Kenyans to come forward and visit verified Safaricom agents so as to confirm whether their lines are registered or not. Our aim is to protect Kenyans against fraudsters, he said.

He also pointed out that not everyone should visit Safaricom agencies for the activity as there are others whose lines are already registered.

Subscribers can dial * 106 # to confirm whether their lines are registered or not.

Mr Mulila said the re-registration process is free and therefore calls on customers not to dash out cash or bribe the agents for registration or verification.

On the other hand, 52% of Airtel line users have gone for their sim Card verification process.
