Leopards coach asks for Sh1.8m before he can leave
AFC Leopards coach Pieter de Jongh is demanding for some Sh 1.8 million to part ways with the club.
This amount is equivalent to full payment of the remainder of his six months salary.
His contract with the big cats is expected to formally expire in June, Nairobi News understands.
The Dutchman has continued conducting the team’s pre-season training as per his “contractual obligations” despite reports that he had been relieved of his duties by the club management as far back as last November.
PAID IN FULL
This is due to the fact that, according to those in the know, the club has not officially and procedurally terminated his 18 month contract that he signed last May, in which he wants to be paid in full.
“De Jongh has as per Monday, not received any official communication from his employer as regards terminating his contract. And in the unlikely event that were to happen, he wants a full payment for the last six months, because it is not because of gross conduct that the club is parting ways with him,” our source revealed.
“Besides, he worked hard to secure the club sixth place under the circumstances that we know all know about last season.
BREACH OF CONTRACT
“On his part, failure to pay his monthly dues and allowances on time constitutes a breach of contract and he has an option of securing this matter with the relevant authorities,” the source added.
De Jongh is widely expected to be replaced by Romanian Dorian Marin ahead of the start of the new league season in February.
