MP’s bodyguard died on his birthday, family to cut cake during burial
The widow of one the bodyguards killed together with Kabete MP George Muchai plans to cut his birthday cake during his burial.
Ms Lydia Makena had endured an anxious night after her late husband, who had promised to be home by evening, never showed up.
The 25-year-old widow, who is a mother of one, had been married to the late Police Constable Kimathi for over two years.
On that fateful day, she had planned a party to celebrate her husband’s birthday.
POSTPONE BIRTHDAY
However, he did not return in the evening, which was not unexpected given his line of work.
But she decided to call him at night to find out if the birthday celebrations should be postponed.
The husband reassured her that he was still on duty with the MP, but at around 11pm she slept, thinking he would show up later.
At around 4am, she woke up and called the husband in vain. The phone went unanswered, neither were the text messages replied.
At around 6am, a family friend called from Mombasa saying that he could not reach the officer.
“We will keep the birthday cake until the burial day when we will cut it near his grave,” Makena said.
