Alarming cases of human bodies in Nairobi rivers


Police in Nairobi are investigating an incident in which a man’s body was found floating on Nairobi River near Chiromo Mortuary.

According to the police, they were notified of the body on Tuesday evening by guards at Chiromo Mortuary. It is then that they rushed to the scene and found the body at the junction of Waiyaki way and Riverside Drive.

Police officers thereafter took the body to the City Mortuary for autopsy to establish the cause of death.

Police in Nairobi are also investigating the cause of death of man whose decomposing body was found in a river in Kasarani area on Monday evening.

The body was found in a river in Maji Mazuri area by residents who called the police.

According to the police, the badly decomposed seemed to have been swept to the scene as floods wreak havoc in different parts of the city. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending probe and identification.

Three days ago, the body of another man was found floating in a river in Kasarani Sub-County. The body was found in a river running within Maji Mazuri area by locals who immediately informed the police. On the same day, another body of 27-year-old Kevin Nagoli was found in River Mathare.

In yet another bizarre incident a one-year-old boy drowned in a basin with water in Githunguri, Kiambu County.

Ms Ann Nyambura, the mother of the baby, said she was washing clothes in her compound when she left the bucket behind as she headed to air the clothes.

On returning to the spot where she was washing clothes she found the baby drowned in the basin with his head in the water. The baby was pronounced dead on arrival at the Githunguri Sub-County Hospital.

Last week, a team of police officers commenced investigating the discovery of a torsoless human leg that was found floating in the Nairobi river in Korogocho slums.

Residents spotted the human leg and removed it from the river. The leg seemed to have been swept to the scene and efforts to identify it are ongoing.

In another incident in Kasarani police are looking for culprits who stabbed a man and left his body by the roadside. According to the police, the body had stab wounds in the left collar bone, back and neck.

The man who had groceries and Sh400 on him is suspected to have been killed in an attack by unknown people. The body was moved to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, have launched investigations after the body of a man was found in his bed in Dagoretti area. The deceased, identified as Harun Karani, worked with Solar Panda at Chinese Centre and had not reported to work since April 20 prompting a search.

His colleagues went to his house and peeped through the window and saw him lying on the bed unresponsive. They proceeded to brake the door and found him lying dead.

Police who visited the scene said he had blood oozing from his mouth and are yet to know the cause of the death. The body was moved to the mortuary pending probe.
