Despite having a massive fanbase, Vanessa said the glitz and glamour don’t necessarily equate to true happiness.

“(I had ) The greatest fans in the world but I needed true happiness because all that glitters is not gold,” she said.

Feeling a lack of peace within her spirit, she recognized the need for a change in her life’s trajectory.

In her pursuit of transformation, Vanessa turned to her faith and found solace in surrendering to God.

“I surrendered and said God you can have my heart. Jesus blessed me, healed me and continues to work on me,” she said.

In 2020, Vanessa shocked her fans by announcing that she was quitting music.

Speaking on her podcast “Deep Dive with Vanessa Mdee,” she delved deeper into her decision, candidly discussing her perspective on the music industry.

Despite her love for music, Vanessa expressed her reservations about the industry itself, calling it “demonic” and attributing it to leading her down the wrong path.

“People will tell you half-truths about what goes on, and the truth is I just wanna be an advocate for honesty and beauty and a sincere advocate for what facing your demons can do for you,” she said.

Vanessa is raising her two children with her Nigerian-American boyfriend Rotimi.
