Comedian Churchill speaks about his favourite content creator – Watch

Renowned comedian Churchill Ndambuki has talked about his favourite cooking show, called ‘Hot Mess Cooking’ owned by a 50-year-old man.

Churchill was speaking at the International Creator Day held at the Chandaria Auditorium, University of Nairobi Towers on Tuesday, April 23.

Despite not speaking English, the show has garnered over 5 million followers and earns 10 million USD (Sh 1,340,000,000) annually.

“He took three years to build his fanbase, and now he makes a significant income from his platform. It just took his nephews to have very nice cameras and light,” Churchill said.

The veteran comedian called on content creators to produce clean and engaging content on their platforms as a means to sustain their livelihoods.

Comedian Churchill emphasised the potential of social media platforms in building and nurturing communities.

“You are the future. The beauty of social media is that you can create your own community, much like a church. Every day, you feed them content, and they, in turn, refer others to you,” he said.

Churchill highlighted the importance of word-of-mouth referrals as a key strategy for success on social media.

He urged creators to focus on producing content that resonates with a wide audience, including their parents, and can be shared and scaled up for corporate engagement.

“What will sustain you is the quality of your content. Can you share it with your parents? Can they refer your content to others? Can you scale it up and make it appealing enough for corporate engagement?” Churchill questioned.

International Creator Day, celebrated on April 23rd, aims to recognize the impact of content creators who inspire, educate, and entertain audiences worldwide.

This year’s theme focused on content monetization and career opportunities for youth, organized by the Kenya Social Media Awards (SOMA) in collaboration with Safaricom, Meta, and the University of Nairobi.

The Cocktail event was attended by prominent social media influencers, representatives from creative industry institutions, and experts.
