Pope’s advance team to jet into Nairobi next week

An advance party from the Vatican will be in the country next week to prepare for the arrival of Pope Francis 1.

Although the exact date and size of delegation are yet to be communicated, the Papal protocol team will be welcomed by Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo and head of the church in the country, John Cardinal Njue.

According to Nyeri Catholic Diocese head Peter Kairu, the delegation will oversee the preparations and discuss security with relevant government authorities and organs.

Archbishop Kairu said the Pope would be in Kenya for three days.

“We expect him to arrive here between November 25 and 27. He will be welcomed by President Uhuru Kenyatta since he is the President of the Vatican,” he said.

The archbishop, however, said the church was forming committees, spearheaded by archbishops and senior people, based on their experience in heading big events.

The committees will be charged with ensuring that logistics for the preparations and the papal stay run smoothly.

According to Archbishop Kairu, the Kenyan Catholic Church was yet to deliberate on the main agenda it would love the Pope to address.
