Rivals cash in on Tuskys’ shutdown
Rival supermarkets capitalized on the shutdown of Tuskys supermarkets on Thursday, recording high customer turnout as the festive season approaches.
All Tuskys outlets in the city centre were shut after employees boycotted duty to press for implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed last month.
Nairobians easily moved to other supermarkets, with Nakumatt and Uchumi outlets recording booming business.
“Am not sure when the Tuskys supermarket will open, but life goes on,” said Agnes Wangari, a shopper.
“In case I want to go shopping I will settle on the supermarkets that are open,” she added.
Earlier in the day, employees at Tuskys Chap Chap branch, located along Muindi Mbingu road, were forcibly ejected from their work stations by colleagues after ignoring the strike
“We have no problem with the customers, but the traitors (employees still at work) who want to benefit without breaking a sweat,” said one of the employees enforcing the shutdown.
