Kidero attacks Kenneth’s ambition for city’s top seat

Governor Evans Kidero on Sunday hit out at his opponents calling them hypocrites who do not have the interests of Nairobi residents at heart.

Speaking after a church service at St Peter’s ACK in Embakasi East Constituency, Dr Kidero singled out former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth saying that he was in the governorship race solely to serve his political interests.

FRUSTRATING COUNTY

He further accused Mr Kenneth of being behind woes that have bedevilled the city by taking the county to court and also frustrating it in revenue allocation when he was minister for Planning, alleging that he was part of the team that designed and executed the revenue sharing formula that has disadvantaged Nairobi.

Elsewhere in Kiambu County, a section of Kikuyu council of elders pledged to support Dr Kidero’s re-election.

Led by their chairman, Captain Waweru Mbugua, the elders said that they would marshal support for Dr Kidero’s bid for a second term by rallying people from Kiambu residing and registered to vote in Nairobi to re-elect the governor in the up coming polls.

Mr Mbugua was speaking at the sidelines of a meeting with the governor at City Hall last Friday.

COURTESY CALL

Dr Kidero, on his part, said that the elders paid him a courtesy call to discuss issues touching on elections, investment, service provision, land rates, expired leases and threats posed by land grabbing cartels in the capital among other issues.

He added that he welcomed the move and would continue to work with all ethnic communities living in Nairobi County as the county is a melting pot of different communities and has no time for ethnically driven leadership.
