Assistant chief in Kericho arrested for allegedly defiling 4-year-old girl
An assistant chief in Kericho County has been arrested for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.
The assistant chief was arrested following a complaint lodged by the minor’s parents.
The administrator, who said to be 42-years-old, surrendered himself to Londiani Police Station where he was duly arrested and taken to hospital with the minor for medical examination.
A police report indicates that the parents and villagers went to the police station to formally record their complaint and to demand for action against the suspect.
Fear of being lynched
“She (the minor) complained of pain in her genital area while urinating which prompted her mother to inquire from her what had happened. The child disclosed that she had been defiled by the assistant chief,” the police said in a report.
According to the police, the incident happened near the suspect’s home on July 11, 2024 around 5pm.
“The suspect availed himself at the police station following agitation from members of members of the public for fear of being lynched,” the police said.
A senior detective with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DIC) in Kericho confirmed that the administrator had been arrested.
Deal with sex pests
“The administrator was indeed arrested and this information has been conveyed to his seniors,” the detective told the Nation.
Area residents have condemned the incident and demanded that the suspect be prosecuted.
Ms Beatrice Langat, a resident of Londiani, called on the government to deal with sex pests in the community, especially those who prey on minors.
Cases of underage girls being defiled have risen in the South Rift region.
“The biggest problem we face as a region and a community is that some of these cases have been dropped after witnesses failed to turn up in court. It is important for the society to protect girls and mentor them to be responsible citizens” said Hellen Taplelei, a former nominated MCA.
