Azimio Twitter big-wig goes head to head with his parody on Twitter

In this age of social media, accounts continue popping up on various platforms to the chagrin of those whose identity has been assumed.

This could be seen when Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera had to come out and disown active social media accounts bearing her name and image.

The accounts also posted content falsely credited to her.

The same happened to Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance’s leaning Twitter big-wig Gabriel Oguda who went to the extent of demanding the Directorate of Criminal Investigations look into the account bearing his names as @oguda_Gabriel.

“Dear, @DCI_Kenya. The guy running this account @oguda_Gabriel is impersonating me. I’ve notified @Twitter to bring it down, but they’re taking their time with it. Kindly let me know how you could be of help. I need this resolved urgently.” Oguda tweeted on Saturday, August 27, 2022.

The parody account posted content specifically addressing the Kalenjin tribe- the language President-elect Dr William Samoei Ruto speaks- as well as allegations touching on Cherera, which we cannot re-print.

In a heated exchange with the person running the parody account, Oguda demanded that the account be deleted or, “put your mother’s face, you fool.”

To this, the parody account responded, asking Oguda to calm down as it was just a parody account.

It was after the insult that the parody account called on the DCI as well, telling on Oguda for, “resorting to unprovoked insults.”

In subsequent posts, Oguda lamented how Twitter was being slow to take down the account and even threatened to find the impersonator and handle things personally.

“Please Twitter. Could you kindly give me the IP address of the guy running this account @oguda_Gabriel. Because you’ve refused to bring it down. I want to go to the guy’s house so I can square it out with him one on one. Please treat this with urgency,” wrote Gabriel.

Many of Oguda’s followers proceeded to report the parody account for violating Twitter rules and posting unverified content.

As of Sunday morning, August 28,2022, the parody account was non-existent.

Oguda is a columnist in a leading national newspaper.
