Babu Owino threatens Blogger Alai over #UoNGangs

The Students Organization of Nairobi University chairman Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino, has threatened “comrade power” against controversial blogger Robert Alai for allegedly maligning his name after linking him with the mysterious murder of two University of Nairobi students.

“What I will do to Alai only God knows, but meanwhile, I will consult on the comrades to advice on what actions we should take against him. As at now they are actually looking for him,” Babu told Nairobi News in a phone interview.

Mr Alai Monday camped on Twitter calling out Babu to help him unravel the murder of two students who were on Friday night lynched at the institution’s hostel.

Julius Omondi, who has just completed his diploma in criminology and was seeking to join first year, and Mohammed Yusut, a third year Bachelor of Commrce student, were killed by their colleagues as they made away with one laptop allegedly stolen from a student.

On Monday, the hashtag #UoNGang went viral on Twitter where controversial blogger Alai linked Babu Owino with the killings.

Alai (@RobettAlai) tweeted: “Why do we have Law Students at UoN if their kind of justice is called “Mob Justice”? These goons must be arrested. #UoNGangs.

Another Tweet by @RobertAlai read” Spoken to Babu again. My message to Babu is VERY CLEAR. He knows the killers of Omondi and Yusuf. He MUST produce them. #UoNGangs(sic).”

Those on the Sonu leaders’ side also came up with a hashtag #BabuIsClean in an attempt to defend Babu from Alai’s accusation.

Babu Owino himself Tweeted to Alai: “ Been following this #UoNGangs and wants to STATE categorically that there are NO GANGS at the UoN.(sic).
