Charles Keter’s comeback: Former Energy CS appointed Ruto’s advisor

By Kevin Cheruiyot September 14th, 2023 1 min read

The Public Service Commission has appointed former Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Kerich as President Ruto’s advisor. Mr Keter will be the President’s advisor on Great Lakes Region Affairs.

The appointment comes one year after Mr Keter lost in the UDA primaries in Kericho County, where he was eying the governor seat.

Mr Keter served in the former administration of Uhuru Kenyatta as the Energy Cabinet Secretary. He was among the six Cabinet Secretaries that Mr Kenyatta retained for the duration of his two-term tenure.

Reacting to the news of his appointment, Mr Keter said he was deeply honoured and grateful to the President for the opportunity to serve in the position.

“I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to contribute to the development, prosperity, and stability of the Great Lakes Region under his visionary leadership,” Keter tweeted.

The appointment cements the relationship between the longstanding political ties between President Ruto and Mr Keter.

Mr Keter failed in his quest for the Kericho gubernatorial seat after he lost to Erick Mutai in the UDA primaries.

Before joining President Kenyatta’s Cabinet, Mr Keter served as the Senator for Kericho County.

Aaron Cheruiyot is the current senator for Kericho, a position he is serving for a second term having succeeded Mr Keter.
