Construction worker falls to his death from Pangani building


Police in Pangani have launched investigations following the death of a mason who fell from the top of a building.

The construction worker identified as Muthui Mwenda is believed to have slipped and fell to his died on the evening of Monday, May 8, 2023 as they were about to close business.

Officials from the National Construction Authority (NCA) have since visited the site in an effort to establish whether it had proper documentation prior to the construction.

Similar incidents of people falling off buildings have been reported in the recent past in Nairobi.

For instance, in February 2023, police officers launched investigations after a man who had gone to visit a friend fell and died while in his house in Roysambu, Kasarani Sub County.

The man identified as Jeff Mwathi was inside the house of benga singer Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo when he allegedly fell from the top floor of the building.

Meanwhile, a minor on the night of Monday, May 8, 2023 died after he ingested poison in their home in Kiambu County.

According to the police, the three-year-old, a Ugandan national only identified as Martin, took the poison after he found it in a neighbour’s house in Ndenderu.

“The minor found a bottle containing the poisonous chemical on the table of the neighbour’s house and went ahead to drink the content,” a police report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

The child was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The minor’s body was then taken to Kiambu Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

It has emerged that the owners of the said house then threw the poisonous inside a pit latrine. The police later retrieved the poison from the pit latrine as they launched investigations into the matter.

Already two witnesses have been grilled over the death of the minor.
