Suspected armed robber shot after stealing trouser, phone in Nairobi

A suspected armed robber was Monday afternoon shot and killed in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) after a robbery.

The unidentified robber together with his accomplice had reportedly robbed their victim of his bag which contained a trouser and also snatched his mobile as he walked from Uhuru Park towards the city center.

The victim alerted officers based at Parliament Police Station who were on foot patrol about his ordeal.

The two suspects ran towards the junction of Haile Selassie Avenue and Ngong Road after noticing they were being followed by the officers.

Upon being ordered to stop, police say one of them instead withdrew a pistol and pointed it at them.

In return, the officers managed to shoot and fatally injure one of them as his accomplice managed to escape.

Police recovered a homemade pistol with a waist belt.

The body of the deceased was moved to Nairobi County Morgue awaiting an autopsy and identification.

In March 2023, an armed robber was shot dead by police officers after allegedly attacking a man in Githurai 44, Nairobi county.

In the dramatic incident that resulted in a police chase, the thug who had attempted to escape from the scene on a motorcycle was gunned down as his accomplice fled.

A statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the occurrence which was captured on CCTV footage saw the assailant ambush a man outside his gate, shortly after packing his car, as his accomplice waited on a motorcycle at a distance.

The robber emerged from a row of dark structures across the road, brandishing a firearm at the man before ransacking the man’s pockets and then hopping on a getaway motorbike that had just arrived.

Unlucky for the duo, Kasarani detectives who were patrolling the area heard the commotion and the screams of the robbery victim and rushed to the scene, cornering the thugs.

The officers spotted the getaway motorbike and followed.

As they closed in on the bike, the armed robber disembarked and started running on foot towards a footpath while shooting toward the officers.

In response, one of the officers opened fire and killed the suspect, effectively ending the chase.

The robber’s accomplice, who rode the bike, managed to escape.

The police recovered a Czeska pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm caliber following the chase. The body of the suspect is currently at the City morgue awaiting identification.
