A senior official in the Marsabit county government has refuted claims that he quit his job after an exit from county executives’ WhatsApp group was mistaken for a resignation.

Social media was abuzz with news of his perceived resignation from the county government over ‘undisclosed administrative issues’.

County liaison officer Abdi Ngurusi said he was in the county government to stay and had not thought of resigning.

Mr Ngurusi, however, said he had left two WhatsApp groups ‘Friends of Ukur Yatani’ and ‘Friends of Marsabit County’ last week since they had failed to live up to their objectives

“I have received call from different quarters some as far as the US asking me why I quit from the county. The rumors on the social media are unfounded. I only left the WhatsApp groups and communicated the move to the governor. I’m still in the government, “said Mr Ngurusi.

ALLOCATION OF FUNDS

The WhatsApp groups comprise of members of the county executive, other senior government officials and trusted individuals who are close to the county administration.

Addressing the press in Marsabit town on Wednesday, an agitated Mr Ngurusi said the social platforms that were meant to front for the well-being of Marsabit residents by advocating for proper allocation and utilization of funds.

The liaison officer who has lately criticized some county ministers for alleged graft and stalled development projects said the social forums were being used for propaganda.

“I left these two social media groups last week and some people have misconstrued that to mean I have quit my official position as a liaison officer,’’ he said.

He called on the governor to keenly follow the on-goings in the county saying that would enable him to steer his administration into delivering the pledges he made to the electorate. He also accused some members of the executive of not being sincere to the governor.
