Eric Wainaina pays heartfelt tribute to late actor Charles Ouda


As family and friends of the late actor Charles Ouda prepare to bid their final farewells, the renowned musician Eric Wainaina has honoured his memory with a touching tribute.

Charli’s loved ones have gathered today, February 15, 2024, at All Saints Cathedral for a church service and last rites to commemorate his life and legacy.

During the service, Eric Wainaina performed one of Charli’s favourite songs, ‘Close Every Door’, a piece originally written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and sung by Donny Osmond during the Memorial Vigil hosted at Baraza Media Lab on February 14.

Expressing gratitude to Charli’s family for sharing him with the world, Eric spoke warmly of Charli’s impact and the importance of living life to the fullest.

“Thank you for loaning us Charli and allowing him to be part of our lives,” Eric remarked before his heartfelt performance.

“This song holds special significance as Charli performed it many times during his portrayal of Joseph. Charli taught us the value of wholehearted commitment.”

Friends and peers gathered to share cherished memories and stories, paying tribute to his life through music and heartfelt reflections.

Wainaina, alongside Karimi Rimbui, performed songs that resonated with Charli’s spirit, reflecting on his love for music and performance.

The eulogy delivered at the church service lovingly depicted the life of Charles Joseph Ouda, highlighting his early achievements as an Omo brand ambassador and his passion for both sports and the arts.

His dedication to his craft and the impact he had on those around him were celebrated by his siblings, friends, and colleagues.

Charli’s commitment to relationships was highlighted, including a touching moment shared with his mother when he revealed his intention to propose to Ciru Muriuki in 2023.

Following the church service, Charli’s body will be cremated at the Kariokor cemetery, marking the final chapter in his earthly journey.
