Europeans meddling in oil pipeline deal – analyst


Political analyst David Matsanga has accused European companies of interfering with the Kenya – Uganda oil pipeline deal.

The Ugandan was speaking during a morning talk show on national television Sunday.

“It is the French, through Total. They are saying the Lamu – Baringo – Turkana – Hoima route is insecure, and have already talked to (Tanzania President Pombe) Maghufuli and (Ugandan President Yoweri) Museveni promising to fund the route Tanga – Hoima pipeline route,” Mr Matsanga said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday confirmed that Kenya had lost out to Tanzania in the battle to transport Uganda’s oil to the world market,

President Kenyatta made the announcement moments after arriving back to the country after a one day official visit to attend the 13th Northern Corridor Integration Projects Summit in Kampala.

He said Kenya will build its own pipeline to to the Lamu port to transport oil recently discovered in northern Kenya .

“President Yoweri Museveni and I have announced that Kenya will embark on the construction of the Lamu – Lockichar pipeline, while Uganda will build the other pipeline through its southern borders. We have however agreed to continue cooperating on petroleum issues since both countries are new in the industry,” President Kenyatta said.
