Known for his outspoken nature, Embakasi East lawmaker Paul Ongili Owino, affectionately known as Babu Owino, is a devoted family man.

Married to Frida Muthoni, the father of two never hesitates to express pride in his family.

As Valentine’s Day 2024 unfolded with glittering flowers, gifts, and outfits reflecting the occasion, the outspoken MP, in an interview with Nairobi News, shared that he dedicated the day to his family.

Just like any other family, he emphasised his obligation to care for them.

“Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to show love and affection to our loved ones, whether family members or friends. I believe in treating those I love with care because I owe them that duty. I spent Valentine’s Day with my wife,” he explained.

Valentine’s Day, commonly associated with romantic love, is predominantly celebrated by those in romantic relationships or marriages.

The day, observed every February 14th, is characterized by vibrant displays of affection, with partners often wearing red attire to symbolize their love.

Seasoned journalist Stephen Letoo, a close friend of the lawmaker, organized a Men’s Conference at Uhuru Park Gardens, where he led a campaign for the safety of bodaboda riders.

Babu Owino commended the initiative, stating that it would help men understand how to love and care for their wives.

“The Men’s Conference will educate men on how to cherish their wives and win the hearts of women,” remarked the lawmaker, affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Similar forums were organized across the country. Letoo’s conference, themed ‘Men and Safety,’ aimed to address the welfare of men and, particularly, the safety of bodaboda riders.

Expressing concern over the high number of riders lost in road accidents, according to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Mr. Letoo emphasized the need for men to speak up about their challenges.

“Men face various unresolved challenges, including serious mental health issues stemming from financial pressures. Therefore, the Men’s Conference provides them with a platform to voice their concerns. They rarely discuss the problems they encounter with each other,” he stated in an interview with Nairobi News.
