EXCLUSIVE: Mr Lenny speaks on peer pressure, sobriety in the celebrity world

Renowned musician Lenson Njuki, better known as Mr Lenny, has recently shared his thoughts on the prevalence of peer pressure within the celebrity world.

With decades of experience in the music industry and as a father of two, Mr Lenny emphasized the importance of making responsible choices and staying away from harmful influences.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Mr Lenny highlighted his personal commitment to avoiding destructive habits and the negative impact they can have on one’s life.

“I have always been cautious about how I spend my money. Alcohol has never been my thing. Basically, anything that is a drug has never been a drug addict, and that is a personal decision,” Mr Lenny stated firmly.

The veteran artist acknowledged that being in the entertainment industry makes it easy to succumb to peer pressure, a phenomenon he considers all too common.

He emphasized the significance of making conscious decisions and staying focused on the chosen path, as veering off course can lead to regret and loss of great opportunities.

Citing the unfortunate deaths of numerous celebrities, both locally and internationally, due to substance abuse, Mr Lenny cautioned against the dangers of peer pressure.

“We have witnessed the tragic demise of celebrated individuals, some of whom we grew up listening to. All this is a result of succumbing to peer pressure and the allure of drugs,” he lamented.

For Mr Lenny, maintaining a drug-free lifestyle has been a matter of discipline.

While acknowledging the challenges faced by celebrities, he emphasized the importance of making responsible choices and avoiding the pitfalls that can come with fame.

When asked about his approach to parenting, Mr Lenny expressed his supportive stance on his children’s career choices.

He affirmed that he would encourage and stand behind them regardless of the path they choose to pursue.

“You cannot stop your child from being who they want to be. You should allow them to experiment. All you can do is inspire them and teach them well,” he asserted.
