Exclusive: Raila Junior’s wife’s glowing tribute to her mum-in-love Mama Ida
Yvonne Wambui Kibukosya, the wife of Raila Junior, shared heartfelt sentiments about her mother-in-law, Mama Ida Odinga, during the Opposition leader’s wife recent birthday celebration.
Speaking exclusively to Nairobi News during the event, Yvonne described Mama Ida not just as her mother-in-law but also a mentor. She termed her as a strict yet loving figure in her life.
“I have grown to love my mother-in-law, and I can’t even call her my mother-in-law because she is actually my mentor. She has taught me a lot about life, marriage and how to be a strong and nurturing mother. I’m very proud to call her my mother-in-law, and I aspire to follow in her footsteps,” Yvonne said.
The occasion also allowed Yvonne to reflect on the wisdom she has gained from Mama Ida as she expressed hopes of emulating the positive qualities that Mama Ida embodies.

Affectionately referring to Mama Ida as a “teddy bear,” Yvonne acknowledged her toughness and resilience combined with a loving nature.
“She is tough but very loving. I am humbled that I can have her as a mum,” she said.
Yvonne’s gratitude and respect for Mama Ida shine through as she considers herself fortunate to have her as a maternal figure in her life.
The Odinga family’s celebration was also marked by the coincidence that Yvonne and Junior’s second son shares a birthday with Mama Ida.
The young boy celebrated his second birthday on August 25, adding an extra layer of joy and significance to the Odinga family.

Yvonne also spoke about the lessons she and Junior have learnt from Mr Odinga and Mama Ida.
“We have a lot to learn from them,” she said.
Yvonne also took the opportunity to pay glowing tribute to her father-in-law, Mr Odinga, who is the Opposition leader.
She described him as a remarkable man with a great love for his family and Kenya.
“To my father in law, he is the greatest and I love him. He is the kind of a father every daughter could ever ask for in terms of what he does for the country and how much he loves his family and what’s he fights for the country as well.”
