No extension of Huduma Namba registration, says Matiang’i
Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, has said that the government will not extend the mass registration exercise on the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS), commonly known as Huduma Namba.
The mass registration for those living within Kenya will conclude on May 18.
Kenyans living in the Diaspora have been registering for Huduma Namba since May 6 in an exercise that will go on until June 20, 2019.
“There will be cost implications if we extend that period. We have deployed 154 KIEMs kit across our 54 missions around the world,” Matiang’i said on Monday.
SECURITY OF DETAILS
However, Matiang’i reiterated that nobody will be forced to register for Huduma Namba further assuring Kenyans that their details are secure.
According to Matiang’i, 31 million Kenyans have so far been captured on the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS).
At the same time, the CS announced that the working hours of Huduma Namba registration centres has been extended starting on Monday.
Registration centers will be open from 6am-6pm.
Meanwhile, ICT Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru, has said the NIIMS registration will enable the government to plan and offer services more efficiently.
