Gachagua to Raila: What are you fighting for?


Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has yet again sharply criticised Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga, for continually holding anti-government demonstrations.

Speaking on Thursday, a day after the country witness widespread protests, Gachagua told Mr Odinga that there is no need for him to hold protests after being ‘rejected’ by Kenyans.

“The people of Kenya rejected you five times. You are now 80 years old. What are you fighting for?” Gachagua posed.

Mr Gachagua has persistently been attacking Mr Odinga, saying it is high time he retired from active politics.

Last month, he slammed Mr Odinga for his opposition to the Finance Bill 2023, which includes the controversial housing fund.

The DP criticised Mr Odinga for what he described as being oblivious to the plight of Kenyans living in informal settlements. He said Mr Odinga does not mean well for Kenyans.

In March 2023, he also said the government would not negotiate with the Azimio leader.

“We shall only engage my elder brother Raila in a dialogue of his exit from politics and nothing else,” he said, adding that Mr Odinga has had nothing to offer Kenyans since he joined politics.

“It is Raila who has led this country to an economic loss. He has been using violence every election year,” Gachagua said.

The DP is also on record for accusing Mr Odinga of ‘sabotaging’ former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime, saying the Handshake between the two leaders is what sank the Kenyan economy.
