Kenyans will have to dig deeper into their pockets to pay more to replace lost documents including the national Identity card and passports, in new levies announced by the government.

In a gazette notice dated November 7, 2023, it will now cost you Sh2,000 to replace your ID, and also part with Sh1,000 to register for a new one.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki further announced the newly revised fees for identification and immigration documents.

“It is notified that under Regulation 60 of the Public Finance Management (National Government) Regulations, 2015, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning has granted the Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary the authority for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to revise charges and levies on its services,” Kindiki stated.

Previously Kenyan citizens were charged Sh100 only to apply for a duplicate ID, and no charges for registration of a new ID.

You will also be required to pay Sh1,000 to change particulars or details in your identification card, and Sh1,000 to make an identification report, up from Sh100.

The Ministry also revised passport and immigration fees upwards.

CS Kindiki announced that the fee for the standard 34-page passport application has surged to Sh7,500 up from the current Sh4,500.

While a 50-page ordinary passport will now cost applicants Sh9,500 from the existing Sh6,000 and the application fee for a 66-page ordinary passport has shot up by Sh5,000 to Sh12,500.

Replacing a lost passport will cost Sh20,000, an increase of Sh8,000 from the previous fee while replacing a valid mutilated passport will cost Sh20,000 from Sh10,000.
