Hapa Kule comedian bemoans poor pay despite lucrative TV deal

A local comedian has gone public on the low pay they are paid by production companies that are raking in millions in television deals.

Rose Nyabhate, who was until recently part of the Hapa Kule cast, posted a message on social media explaining why quit the role following a pay dispute.

She claims the show’s cast are each offered a measly Sh1,000 a week.

The amount, she explained, is far less than the estimated Sh1 million the company makes each month.

“I shoot in Kiambu each week, no transport and only 1 meal a day, which I make 1 k (thousand). If an episode makes Sh200,000 and I am given 1,000 that is really an insult,” Nyabhate wrote on her Facebook page.

Nyabhate also claimed she was accused of incitement and “quitting the cast’s whatsapp group” before being fired from this role.

“Fame doesn’t pay bills, I loved the show a lot and gave my best but it was never enough. I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” she concluded.
