Here are President Ruto’s fresh promises to Kenyans

President William Ruto has made several promises just a few weeks after promising that the price of unga would come down.

This even as the Head of State yet to fulfil the ones he made during the campaign period that preceded last year’s General Elections.

Here are some the fresh promises that the president has recently made:

Pay cut for civil servants – On April 23, 2023, President Ruto announced that all civil servants in the country will be subjected to a 3 per cent pay cut towards the Housing Fund.

The President announced this when he attended a service at Friends Church (Quakers) in Donholm, Nairobi. However, he did not give a timeline for when the deductions would take effect.

“Every Kenyan will be able to contribute 3 per cent of their salary towards affordable housing. For every 3 per cent someone saves, the employer will be required by law to save an additional 3 per cent,” President Ruto said.

Second phase of Hustler Fund – On the same day, the president announced that the government will launch the second phase of the Hustler Fund.

Speaking in Meru, President Ruto said the loans will only be accessible to business owners by May.

“The second phase of the Hustler Fund that will be accessible to business people will be rolled out in the next month,” President Ruto said.

This comes a month after the launch of the Individual Micro Loan Product under the Hustler Fund during the Women Enterprise Fund (WEP) Digital on February 3, 2023.

Increased funding for tertiary institutions – On April 22, 2023, President Ruto promised that his government will have a comprehensive funding mechanism for universities from May.

According to the Head of State, the move is aimed at improving the quality of education in the tertiary institutions.

“From May, we are going to have a new and comprehensive funding mechanism,” President Ruto said in Laare, Meru County, during the launch of the tarmacking of the Kaelo-Kamukunji-Mutuati Road.

During the campaigns, President Ruto promised to lower the cost of living. However, this has not yet materialized.

The then Deputy President also promised that the Hustler fund would be free, a promise that changed after he was sworn-in as president.

Even as he continues making more promises, Kenyans are still waiting for the Head of State to fulfill some of the promises he made during the campaigns.
