Here is why there is a delay in buying tokens on the prepaid system
Kenya Power and Lighting Company has issued a brief statement confirming the delay in payment of tokens through the pay bill number.
The company stated that the hitch would be fixed within the shortest time after the statement issuance.
“We are experiencing a hitch on the prepaid system which is affecting the generation of electricity tokens. We are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible,” the company said on Thursday.
This comes after several customers complained of the delay in buying prepaid tokens from Wednesday.
Some customers went to social media to demand answers from the company and when the services will be restored.
“Kenya Power is there an issue with the official playbill no. 888880, I keep getting this message; Transaction failed, M-PESA cannot complete payment of Ksh1500.00 to KPLC PREPAID. The Organization’s system receiving the payment experienced some technical challenges, try again,” Grace Wanjohi posted on the X platform.
“Well noted, but customers are complaining of token payments through pay bill number 888880,” Kiptoo Emmanuel said.
“I am unable to purchase token through mpesa. Any way out? Transaction failed, M-PESA cannot complete payment of Ksh750.00 to KPLC PREPAID. The Organization’s system receiving the payment experienced some technical challenges, try again later,” Joe Munyani posted.
This comes amidst a change of payment options in several business facilities within the country, with the majority opting for alternative options and not pay bill.
“Due to increased cost of transacting via mobiles and banks, we will not be using paybill or buy goods as from October 1, 2023. Kindly pay cash or withdrawal,” one of the notices pinned in a shop reads.
At the same time, the company announced that there would be a power outage in some parts of the three counties on Thursday.
The counties to be affected include the whole of Kathonzweni in Makueni, a section of West Pokot and some areas in Kilifi County.
