How did he die in his boxers? Family questions rapper’s death in Riruta apartments

The family of Charles Waga Otieno is grappling with shock and grief as they seek answers surrounding the mysterious death of their loved one, whose lifeless body was discovered on the ground floor of Corner Heights Apartment on Naivasha Road, Dagoretti South.

Autopsy results, revealing multiple fractures to Waga’s head and internal bleeding, have only deepened the mystery, leaving family and friends puzzled about the circumstances leading to his demise.

On Wednesday, January 31, a sombre gathering of family and friends convened at Coptic Hospital’s morgue, where a private pathologist conducted the autopsy on Waga’s body.

Waga’s friends recounted the shocking discovery of his body, noting bloodstains and the absence of his trousers.

Strangely, Waga’s trousers, shoes, bracelet, marvin (beanie/knit cap), and belt were later found in the corridor leading to the apartment where he delivered a carpet.

Jaffer Ochieng, a friend of the late Waga, expressed bewilderment over the situation, stating, “We also found an earring [Waga doesn’t have pierced ears], and what shocked us is that Waga had a boxer only. We want justice for Waga because he was an innocent boy.”

Erick Babu, Waga’s brother, expressed the family’s shock over the sudden death of their beloved relative, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. “We are shocked, and we demand that an investigation is carried out to reveal what killed Charles,” said Babu.

The family has urged investigators to scrutinize the apartment’s caretaker, neighbours, and the security guard on duty when the incident occurred. Their plea for justice underscores a quest to understand the circumstances leading to Waga’s tragic demise.

Aside from being a victim of an apparent tragedy, Waga was an aspiring artist known for his determination in the music industry. Colleagues shared that he was gearing up to release a song with a prominent artist in the country.

Waga, employed as an attendant at Identity Cleaners car wash on Naivasha Road, began his last day like any other. He was tasked with delivering a carpet to a Nigerian client residing in room 56 on the seventh floor of the Corner Heights Apartment. The family noted that Waga was to receive payment of Sh800 for cleaning two carpets for the client.

Attempts to seek information from the apartment’s caretaker were thwarted by security guards who denied media access, insisting on a police letter for entry, claiming the caretaker was absent.

As the investigation unfolds, the family mourns the untimely loss of Charles Waga Otieno, a young man with promising aspirations in the music industry.
