How Ex-BBC journalist Ferdinand Omondi met his wife on Facebook

Caroline Ng’ang’a, the wife of former BBC journalist Ferdinand Omondi, recently shared the captivating story of how a single Facebook post played cupid in their journey to marriage.

The couple, who tied the knot in a charming ceremony in January 2022, have left netizens swooning over their unconventional yet endearing love story.

The serendipitous moment occurred on August 13, 2019, when Caroline took to her Facebook page to express her desire for a language partner. Little did she know that this seemingly innocent post would change the course of her life forever.

In her post, she humorously stated, “I am looking for someone I can do my French speaking practice with… Through phone calls and maybe some coffee dates… it will be great if they are smart, male of legal age, handsome and single… in that order.”

Remarkably, Ferdinand Omondi not only noticed the post but also took it seriously, sliding into her inbox four years later, resulting in a beautiful marriage. Sharing her delight, Caroline posted on her Facebook page, “It is the day of the year that we commemorate how Ferdinand Omondi took this post seriously 4 years ago, slid into the DM, and got himself a wife. Am still waiting to be taken to the Eiffel Tower though.”

Delving into the backstory, Caroline explained to Azimio blogger Pauline Njoroge that their paths had crossed over a decade ago. However, at the time, Omondi’s earnings as a Tahidi High actor did not meet Caroline’s expectations. “We had met over 10 years earlier but his pay as a Tahidi High actor was not enough. So I gave him time to upgrade. Full details on our next golf date,” she humorously added.

The couple’s intimate wedding ceremony in January 2022 was attended by close friends, including Omondi’s former colleagues from NTV and KTN. Announcing their union, Omondi took to social media, writing, “Happy New Year. Nothing but joy, gratitude, and satisfaction in my heart… Let’s do life together, @iamcarolinenganga. I love you very much, and cannot wait to celebrate milestone after milestone with you by my side.”

Six months before their wedding, Omondi added another chapter to their love story by proposing to Caroline.

He popped the million-dollar question on one knee against the backdrop of the nation celebrating Eid Ul Adha. Sharing the news on Twitter, Omondi, popularly known as Mule from Tahidi High, joyfully announced, “And now these three remain faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13. She said yes.”

Caroline also expressed her delight on social media, comparing her journey to Mary’s in Luke Chapter 1. “Like Mary in Luke Chapter 1, my soul magnifies the Lord… Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is God’s name.”
