Igathe vehemently defended Sonko 7 hours to resignation – VIDEO
Polycarp Igathe who has resigned as Nairobi deputy governor had praised his boss Governor Mike Sonko seven hours before pulling the surprise move.
Mr Igathe had defended Mr Sonko as “focused” during Friday’s NTV Today show. He gave no hint of a strain with the governor.
“I want to assure people out there that the governor is focused because his first promise was a clean and bright Nairobi,” said Mr Igathe.
He then went on to detail their work plan for Nairobi.
“We gazetted a decongestion plan which is to stop the decanting of all these upcountry matatus into those three areas (downtown Nairobi)”, he said.
“We want to hire about 100 young men in different wards who we will pay on a monthly basis & these people will be the effective collectors of this garbage,” he said.
Mr Igathe has also been a defender of Mr Sonko and his controversial rescue team.
Sonko’s humour is for the Oscars. I couldn’t have asked for a better Boss. #WorkHardPlayHard pic.twitter.com/iumwWPEQnc

@SonkoRescueTeam has been involved in humanitarian interventions in & out of Nairobi County. They were key in the recovery of bodies from the L. Nakuru helicopter crash, paid bills for numerous election & non-election related cases, provided clean water & emergency response

I am enjoying the passion with which @SonkoRescueTeam is being discussed. SRT is an NGO & activities by them to clean up the city are funded by well-wishers & my Boss @MikeSonko whose philanthropic ways are being used to make a difference in our city. Funds do not come from NCC
