Johnnie Walker launches scotch whisky inspired by Game of Thrones

Johnnie Walker has partnered with American premium cable network HBO to introduce two new variants of the Scotch Whisky themed around its critically acclaimed tv series Game of Thrones.

The partnership will see the Diageo brand introduce Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire and A Song of Ice in the Kenyan market and especially for the lovers of the popular tv series.

The limited edition whiskies are inspired by the tale of the two great houses represented by two ancient creatures in Game of Thrones; the iconic and powerful House Stark of Winterfell and the House Targaryen of Westeros.

According to Diageo, the two whiskey variants are successors to the White Walker by Johnnie Walker Limited Edition Scotch, which was launched in 2018.

Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice Scotch features single malts from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries with a bottle design that evokes an icy setting with frosted blue and gray colors.

Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire boasts of flavors of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery.

The Game of Thrones audience continues to both engage with the culture fostered around the series and look for the special collectibles that let it live on,” said Jeff Peters, Vice President, Licensing and Retail at HBO.

Every bottle of A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire comes with a virtual direwolf or dragon and fans of Johnnie Walker and Game of Thrones only need to click a link and scan their bottle to unlock a personalised Augmented Reality (AR) experience which will be updated with new features after a week.

“After seeing the excitement there was for White Walker by Johnnie Walker, we are thrilled to celebrate the end of an epic tale by offering more quality whisky for fans of the show and whisky enthusiasts to collect and enjoy,” added Peters.

A host of local celebrities attended the lavish launch at Kizza club among them Tanasha Donna, Anita Nderu and DJ Pinye.
