Juja Road’s machete wielding mugger known as Kamuchi arrested
A notorious phone snatcher, known for wielding a machete and targeting police officers along Juja Road, has been arrested by law enforcement authorities.
The suspect, identified as Mr William Kamande, also known as Kamuchi, was apprehended moments after he had robbed a motorist of their mobile phone.
Plainclothes police officers, who had been receiving numerous complaints from motorists about such incidents, had strategically positioned themselves in various locations along the busy road.
“The phone snatching gang usually takes advantage of traffic snarl-ups to grab phones and other valuables from passengers and motorists,” police said in a statement.
Kamande, the arrested suspect, is currently in custody at the Pangani Police Station. It was reported that he had snatched a phone earlier before his arrest, fled the scene, and later returned, which ultimately led to his apprehension.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of two mobile phones, with one of them already positively identified by the owner. Additionally, he was armed with a well-sharpened knife.
This arrest comes on the heels of a police appeal to the public for information leading to the apprehension of a wanted armed robber known by the alias “Morio.”
“Morio survived when his other friend was shot dead. Anyone who can help us get information of his whereabouts will be of great assistance,” the police said in a statement.
Morio had gone into hiding after a senior gang member was shot dead. The police had released CCTV footage showing Morio robbing a supermarket in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.
The gang Morio was part of allegedly raided two mini-supermarkets in Mwitirithia on August 19, 2023, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables.
They attempted to escape using a getaway motorbike but were intercepted in Manguo Area, Kasarani, Nairobi County.
Nairobi County Police boss, Mr Adamson Bungei, has previously issued stern warnings to suspected criminals operating within the city, emphasizing that their days are numbered.
The police continue to intensify their efforts to maintain regional safety and security.
