Kalonzo: I’ll be the first to defend Matiang’i in court

Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dared the government to arrest former Cabinet Secretary for Interior Dr Fred Matiang’i.

Speaking in Kisii County on Friday when Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition leaders engaged the residents, Mr Musyoka accused the government of frustrating the former CS.

Mr Musyoka said in the event Dr Matiang’i is arrested he will be the first to defend him in court.

“I’m a lawyer, and I rarely go to the court having been Vice President. But one case which I will take up is that of Dr Matiang’i. I will be the first one to defend Dr Matiang’I,” Mr Musyoka said.

He said also the former CS played a critical role and that in many countries such leaders are protected by the government from threats that might arise from cases that they handled during their leadership.

“Matiang’i was not just a minister from Kisii, he was highly regarded for fighting with people like the Al Shabaab. Instead of frustrating Matiang’i, if you believe in a united country, you should have increased his security level, because you don’t know what the Al Shabaab might be planning to revenge.”

The Wiper leader has also asked President William Ruto to arrest people who have been implicated in corruption instead of going for Dr Matiang’i.

This comes as detectives continue with their investigations regarding the reported raid at Dr Matiang’i home in Nairobi by the police and officers from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Mr Musyoka has also criticized President Ruto’s leadership saying that he is attempting to take the country back to the dark days of a single party state.

Mr Musyoka cautioned warned leaders who were elected on an Azimio ticket that they risk expulsion for working closely with the government.

At the same time, he said that Wiper Party MPs and leaders will convene in Naivasha on Saturday to deliberate on party issues.
