Kanini Kega thanks Gachagua for EALA seat, declares him Mt Kenya’s new ‘kingpin’

Former Member of Parliament for Kieni Constituency Kanini Kega has lauded Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, describing him, the most senior politician from Mount Kenya region.

Mr Kega has asked all leaders in the region to throw their weight behind Gachagua.

He thanked Mr Gachagua for supporting his candidature for the EALA position in a hotly-contested exercise that sparked rift amongst MPs from the region.

“I thank Gachagua because he showed leadership when he realized that the mountain was being sidelined in EALA elections and supported my candidature. It is through his support that the region got two positions in EALA,” said Kega.

This came a few days after the Deputy President revealed that he asked Mt Kenya MPs to ensure they vote for former MP into EALA.

Mr Gachagua said the time for politics is over and they are in the business of reconciling the country.

“I spoke to the leaders from the mountain, I told them that Kanini Kega had insulted me and President William Ruto (but) they should vote for him,” Gachagua said.

“Did they or did they not vote for him? That’s the new Kenya we want,” he added.

Mr Kega belongs to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition under ODM leader Raila Odinga, who ran against President Ruto in the August 9 polls.

But Gachagua said all that is now behind them and all they want is to unify the country and the central Kenya region.
