Kidero to launch his rescue team, but falls short of rival Sonko

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is on Friday expected to launch a project that will offer free emergency services to city residents.

Nairobi News has reliably learnt that the services to be offered by the project will rival those already being offered by the Sonko Rescue Team, a charity venture sponsored by Governor Kidero’s chief rival Senator Mike Sonko.

Governor Kidero objective is for the county government to play a more prominent role during emergencies like accidents, fires and collapse of buildings.

Services being offered under Kidero’s new project, we understand, will soon extend to other departments such as provision of free water in low income areas such as Dandora.

Tens of vehicles have already been acquired by the county government for this purpose.

But Kidero’s rescue team is a pale shadow to the resources at the disposal of the Sonko Rescue Team.

The flamboyant Nairobi Senator recently added a helicopter to his rescue team. This is in addition to  a fleet of top of the range SUV vehicles, ambulances, hearses and security patrol cars that he dishes out to Nairobians for free.’

The senator’s team claims to have facilitated 21 weddings in the county since its inception.

Senator Sonko was also hailed for rescuing veteran Vitimbi comedian Mzee Ojwang’ and offering free hearses during the burial of three children killed in Korogocho by a depressed neighbour. The three were laid to rest at the Langata Cemetery.
