Kirinyaga man stabs girlfriend seven times in love triangle, lynched by mob
Police in Kirinyaga are investigating an incident in which a man who reportedly stabbed his girlfriend before he was lynched by an angry mob.
Mr Edwin Maina, 28, allegedly stabbed Ms Rachel Njeru, 24, over seven times before angry neighbors attacked him.
Ms Millicent Ochuka, the Gichugu Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, said Mr Maina passed away at Kerugoya Hospital but the lady is responding to treatment.
“She is responding well to the treatment and we shall be in a position to record a statement with her once the doctors give as the green light,” she said.
Ochuka confirmed witnesses have been questioned in relation to the incident.
Some of the witnesses say on the fateful day, the deceased was heard saying he was going to kill someone. He was in the possession of two kitchen knives.
It also emerged the deceased was suspecting his girlfriend of having an affair with another man in the neighborhood. The two men had reportedly engaged in a physical fight a week ago.
When neighbors realised everything was not well, they tried to have word with the deceased but he was not ready to share details of what was haunting him.
At 9pm on the same day he was threatening to kill someone, police say they were alerted by neighbors heard a loud commotion inside his house.
Officers attached to Mururi Police Post rushed to the scene and found neighbors had broken into the house of the deceased through the roof after he failed to open the door when asked to do so.
They had already picked him up and were giving him a beating but officers managed to stop them before rushing the duo to hospital.
