A police officer, dressed in a green jumpsuit, braided hair, and sports shoes, was spotted in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) carrying a blue bag filled with teargas canisters.

The heavily armed woman, wearing a gas mask and black weightlifting gloves, was seen supplying officers with canisters to disperse the Azimio la Umoja’s protesters.

Her attire caught the attention of our hawk-eyed photojournalist, who could not help by snap away.

Today, National and General Service Unit (GSU) officers have used many teargas canisters to disperse protesters on various streets in the CBD, including Kenyatta Avenue, City Hallway, Tom Mboya, Wabera, Kencom, and Parliament road.

Protesters have used stones and road signs to block some roads even as daring protesters taunt the police in using tear gas at them.

While the protesters heed the call of the Azimio party leader Raila Odinga to join him in the march to State House, news of his whereabouts is still not available. Martha Karua’s presence is also not known. The two are active on social media.

Additionally, his Karen house is heavily guarded with private guards and roadblocks being put on the road to his house. This was after United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala shared that he would lead the UDA supporters in a march to his house.

Teargas are chemical compounds that temporarily make people unable to function by causing irritation to the eyes, mouth, throat, lungs, and skin.

When released into the air, people could be exposed to them through skin contact, eye contact, or breathing. The effects of exposure to a riot control agent are usually short-lived (15–30 minutes) after the person has been removed from the source and decontaminated (cleaned off).
