Man blames ‘negligent’ nurses at Kenyatta Hospital for wife’s death – VIDEO

A heartbroken man is blaming Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for the death of his wife after she was referred to the hospital over kidney related complications.

Daniel Muyonga claims they arrived at the hospital with his critically ill wife on Monday 8am. The two were accompanied by his mother.

But his 20-year-old wife Vivian Muyonga only got to be admitted the next day at 4am after spending close to 20 hours on the hospital’s corridors. Throughout the period, she was not administered with any drug despite being in obvious pain.

KIDNEY COMPLICATIONS

The couple had been referred to KNH from Tigoni Mission Hospital in Limuru where the patient was diagnosed with kidney related complications.

“She went to Tigoni for treatment and after the tests we were told to go to Kenyatta National Hospital to see a doctor who deals with kidneys,” Daniel told Nairobi News.

The man claims nurses at KNH threw away the laboratory test results they had arrived with from Tigoni Mission Hospital and insisted on a repeat of the same tests at Kenyatta Hospital.

“We asked why but the nurses told us to do as we are told,” added Daniel.

“At that time Vivian could not stand and she kept passing out, but the nurses just looked at her and did nothing.”

After the patient was finally admitted in Ward 7A, Daniel and his mother were told to return home because there was nothing else they were needed for.

EMERGENCY CALL

On Wednesday morning at around 7am, he received a call from KNH and was told to rush to the hospital because there was an emergency. Upon arrival, he did not find his wife on the bed he had left her. The nurses told him that his wife had died.

Nairobi News has seen the trail of laboratory test results and hospital receipts that account for the patient’s presence in the hospital from the morning of April 18th to the time of her death.

When we contacted Kenyatta National Hospital Public Relations Officer Mr Simon Ithai to clarify on the claims of negligence, he promised to look at the case and get back to us.

When again we tried to reach him after 24 hours his phone was on voice mail.

All Daniel wants is to know why his wife was not attended to and why they were forced to pay for the same laboratory tests they had done at Tigoni Hospital.
