MC Jessy dumps Ruto’s party, goes Independent
Comedian Jasper Muthomi, popularly known as MC Jessy, has announced he will vie for South Imenti parliamentary seat as an Independent Candidate.
The announcement comes as a surprise to many after he appeared to have dropped his bid in support of Mwiti Kathaara, who will now fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the August 9 General Election.
“Sent like an arrow from a mighty man’s hand. We keep going….. Bado Tuko kwa race. Let’s do this South Imenti, 9th August it is,” he wrote on Instagram.
The media personality’s ‘exit’ from the South Imenti contest was announced by Deputy President William Ruto, who is the party leader of UDA.
While making the announcement, Ruto said the comedian would take up duties within his presidential campaign secretariat.
“MC Jessy will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favour of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat,” said Ruto.
On Monday, while announcing his next move, MC Jessy thanked the DP for his counsel and pledged his support.
“Thank you my Boss HE The Deputy President Dr William Ruto for your counsel, My support For you remains Intact!!!!,” the comedian added.
The funnyman made clear his intentions to deliver for the people of South Imenti and Kenyan youth across the country on November 2021 where he was endorsed by a section of elders who offered him their support and handed him traditional weapons in a symbolic gesture.
MC Jessy was initially to vie for the constituency seat on a Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi-led Development Empowerment Party (DEP) popularly known as ‘Mbus’ before joining UDA.
“It’s now clear where the vision is heading. After many days of consultative meetings with my South Imenti people, I have officially been invited to join UDA. The groundwork that has been done has finally landed on the side of the winning team,” he posted on his social media pages after meeting DP Ruto in January 2022.
“When I got the call from the Chief Hustler Inviting me, I had to heed my People’s call and his call to join the winning Team. And may the work of redefining South Imenti now begin,” he added.
