Moses Kuria details how Raila Odinga came to cook dinner for him
Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, one of Kenya Kwanza’s most controversial politicians and a vulgar critic of the opposition, surprised Kenyans when he revealed that opposition leader Raila Odinga’s late father, Oginga Odinga, saved him from being expelled from the University of Nairobi.
“Standing here, as a Minister of investments, trade and industry, I feel a sense of foreboding. When I remember the journey that myself, brother James Orengo and Senator Oburu – from where we’ve come from. On 20th January 1994, we were here, a whole 29 years ago to bury Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. The man who instructed Otieno Kajwang to represent me in court and get an injunction that stopped me from being expelled from the University of Nairobi,” reminisced CS Kuria on September 21, 2023.
He went on to tell of drama that unfolded at the late Oginga’s first anniversary, 28 years ago, when the late former president Daniel Moi had banned music at the ‘tero buru’ but the region’s leadership refused. The music began playing late in the evening and suddenly, police descended on the anniversary ceremony with teargas. Moses Kuria and Oburu Odinga were then whisked to Raila’s home for safety.
“We went to Opoda farm and Baba (the affectionate name given to Raila by his supporters) prepared for us the best chicken I’ve ever tasted in this side of the world. That is 28 years ago,” added CS Kuria.
Moses Kuria made these revelations today while speaking in Siaya County where he had gone to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Siaya Industrial Park. At the same time, CS called on politicians and Kenyans across the political divide to work together for the development of the country.
“So guys, let us work together to uplift the lives of our people. There are no elections this year or next year so can’t we keep ourselves busy while focusing on development and then when the next election comes, we can decide if time is over, we go back to those other things.
It is keen to note that Moses Kuria led the charge against spreading manipulated facts regarding a campaign promise Raila Odinga made in the run up to the August 2022 General Election. This was in relation to the ban on importation of second hand clothes and Moses Kuria spent time mocking Raila Odinga. Today, Moses Kuria is quoting and intending to carry out the same ban policies Raila intended on carrying out had he won the presidency. Moses Kuria has also never shied off using vulgarities when speaking about the opposition leader and his political allies- including those he addressed today in Siaya County.
