Moses Kuria launches Vihiga business park despite reassignment from Trade Ministry of Trade and Industry

The new Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Performance, and Delivery, Moses Kuria, on October 6, 2023, presided over the launch of the Vihiga County Aggregation and Industrial Park, despite his recent transfer from the ministry responsible for unveiling such projects.

Before the Cabinet reorganization initiated by President William Ruto in August 2023, CS Kuria had commenced launching County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIP) in various counties.

A day after he was reassigned, he led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vihiga County Aggregation and Industrial Park at Railways Grounds, Luanda.

Vihiga CAIP became the 16th project he unveiled since his appointment as the Trade CS.

A day before Vihiga’s unveiling, Mr Kuria had launched the Garissa County CAIP.

“This marks the 15th CAIP that I have opened across the country, and the rest will be launched as well. I was amazed by the potential this region holds, beyond traditional livestock farming,” Kuria stated in Garissa.

CAIPs serve as business hubs where traders can conduct their business activities, including the sale of agricultural produce.

CAIPs are set to be implemented in all the 47 counties.

The construction of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks is expected to unlock the industrial potential of counties nationwide.

President William stated that the program’s rollout will expand opportunities for Kenyans and stimulate economic growth.

According to the head of state, the project is anticipated to create millions of jobs, with each CAIP estimated to cost Sh500 million.

The National government will fund half of the budget required, while the remaining, each county will finance.

Prior to Ruto’s Cabinet reshuffle, Kuria served as the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade & Industry, a portfolio now held by Ms Rebecca Miano, who previously served as the CS for East African Community (EAC), the ASALs, and Regional Development.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for Vihiga CAIP, CS Kuria was accompanied by Dr Juma Mukhwana, the Permanent Secretary for Investments, Trade & Industry.

Also present, was the host Governor Wilber Ottichilo.
Nairobi News understands the CS will continue discharging his duties as Trade CS until a formal transfer goes through.
