Murugi Munyi acknowledges overspending habits, seeks therapeutic help
Renowned content creator Murugi Munyi has candidly revealed her inclination towards overspending and the steps she is taking to address this behaviour through therapy.
In a recent episode of the Financial Incorrect podcast, Munyi shared insights into her financial journey and personal development.
Munyi confessed to being a spendthrift, attributing the tendency to her confidence in the continuous flow of income.
Acknowledging that this habit has hindered her from building tangible assets, she emphasized that she is actively working on this aspect with a therapist.
“I spend money so much because I know it is coming back. Sometimes that can be a bit of an issue, and I am addressing it with a therapist currently as we speak. I tend just overspend. Even when I got a well-paying job, I wasn’t saving. Now at least, I save and I am also investing. I don’t have anything to show what I did with the money I got from employment. My husband was doing everything for me. He was paying school fees for my son, rent. I think I was just spending on the good life,” she disclosed.

Munyi credited her husband for playing a pivotal role in transforming her financial perspective.
According to her, he instilled the importance of saving and budgeting, influencing a significant shift in her approach to money management.
“I feel like a lot of people don’t have access to knowledge that can show them they can afford a lot more than they think. Even I didn’t realize this until I met my husband. He’s the one who taught me that if you put money away and you don’t spend all of it, you are healthy. I never used to think about it at that point,” she explained.
Despite acknowledging her past overspending habits, Munyi maintained that she has not experienced significant financial hardship in her adult life.
She highlighted a period when she was a single mother and had not yet established her business but clarified that it didn’t amount to financial strife.
Munyi expressed that she was not worried about basic needs during that time.
