Musician Jaguar in court over killer accident
Renowned Kenyan entertainer Charles Kanyi Njagua alias Jaguar who is accused of killing two people in a road accident has been charged in a Baricho court.
He was brought to court under tight security and taken straight to the dock to answer to charges of causing death by careless driving.
Scores of residents thronged the court room to catch a glimpse of the popular musician known for his hit songs Kigegeu and Kioo, giving court orderlies a rough time.
At one point, Jaguar, who is vying for the Starehe parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket, covered his face to avoid being photographed by journalists.
DENIED ALL CHARGES
The artiste was accused that on March 21 along the Makutano-Sagana road in Kirinyaga County he caused the death of a bodaboda cyclist, Peter Mugo and his passenger, Sinfolian Maingi.
Jaguar denied all the charges and urged the court to release him on bond.
The musician who was unrepresented argued that the charges he faced were bailable and that he should be freed on bond, promising he would be attending court regularly.
APPEARED RESTLESS
Senior Principal Magistrate Evans Kiago ordered the artiste, who appeared restless, to be released on Sh50,000 cash bail until June 26 when his case will be heard.
The court heard that Jaguar was heading towards Nairobi from Nyeri when he lost control of his car and knocked down the cyclist and his passenger, killing them on the spot.
Following the fatal accident, traffic police rushed to the scene and commenced investigations to ascertain the truth of the matter.
Jaguar’s Range Rover was then towed to Sagana police station and detained there for inspection. Later Jaguar was picked up for questioning before being charged with the traffic offence.
