Nairobi Polo Club issues statement after assault allegations
The Nairobi Polo Club has clarified an incident in which a woman claimed she was assaulted over the weekend while attending their event.
The club is the oldest polo club in East Africa and is renowned for its prestigious events, on Monday found itself embroiled in controversy after the woman shared on her Instagram stories alleging that she was assaulted by a man at the club grounds during the Soldiers Salute cup event.
According to the woman, the man attempted to strip her, which led to widespread outrage on social media platforms.
“In response to the recent alleged assault incident at Nairobi Polo Club, we want to emphatically state that the club does not tolerate any form of misconduct by any party,” read part of the statement from Nairobi Polo Club.
The club said that their security teams were not notified of the incident – however, they have engaged the police and private security teams to address and investigate these allegations.
“We want to assure our valued visitors that our primary aim is to create an inclusive and secure environment for everyone attending our events. Nairobi Polo Club remains committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct, and we will take appropriate action based on the findings of the ongoing investigations,” it added.
The club over the weekend hosted the return of the last leg of the Nairobi Polo Season that was postponed due to the unexpected rains in late January.
The set kicked off with the Soldier’s Salut Tournament with the Chairman’s Cup following on the 25th and 26th of February.
The Soldier’s Salute and Chairman’s Cup serve as an opportunity for guests to indulge in what is quickly becoming a popular Sport for those with an appetite for style and elegance.
